Just a typical walk with Kaya

Image
Just on a walk as usual. She doesn't pull. She is very calm. She's really good on a leash. She just stays curious and enjoys all around her.

Chill vs Hyper Kaya

Still working on the morning whining ritual, BUT progress. When she whines in the morning, I just look at her and let her know it's early and she should try laying down again and she listens. She just lays at my feet or the ground (she gets warm) and goes back to bed.  Overall, when she sees another dog she will be alert and warn me. Still getting use to her very guard dog bark. But now, I can give the command "enough" and she will know and do the typical husky whine growl (letting you know she still would like to bark, but she is also listening to the command because she's a good dog) She walks REALLY great on a leash. My teenage niece asked to let her out and she did really well. Kaya LOVES HER WALKS. She doesn't pull and struggle so they are very nice controlled relaxing walks. She also jogs too....but I'm not a runner so less that happens, but she wouldn't mind a running family. I mean she IS a husky after all. When we get home, she can definitely chil...

Kaya's new ritual

Image
It comes to no surprise, she also begs. lol It's our 2nd week and things are well. Nothing crazy has surprised us, just her opening up little at a time. She's beginning to show us her true self and less moapy mommy.  She's begun a new morning ritual and we're still trying to decide the reasons behind this. She wakes early in the morning and whines. She runs from one part of the house to the other. Initially we thought she missed her puppies but then she would end up having accidents inside. Naturally the next day I took her out, but even after she pottied outside she still whined. As the days have gone by, she takes a little longer to potty or something doesn't until it's time for the toddler to wake up then I'll let her out again and then she'll go.  Still trying to figure this mystery. She is looking for something...just not sure what. Or just curiosity? TBD...

Settling in

Image
By Friday, she picked her spot on the couch. By the evening she wanted to know what this soft thing we lay on called a bed was. She was NOT disappointed AND she gets to cuddle and belly rubs?! What!! By last night she picked her spot on the bed as well.  Her and Graham definitely have figured out what the dos and don't of Kaya are. She has shown some anxiety. She'll pace between patio door and main door and she seems to be looking for something when she goes outside and not quite sniffing to potty. Separation anxiety from her puppies? Maybe?  We had a power outage last night and when the energy folks came to restore power, guess who noticed them walking around. Well......guess she BARKS! Boy, if I leave her at the door, NOBODY would bother trying to break in. She's got ONE boisterous bark, echos throughout the home.   Of course the little one fell asleep and woke straight up. Thank goodness it didn't take long to fall asleep again. I DO enjoy whatever sleep I c...

First morning after the new environment

Image
She peed right in the yard before we went inside. (PERFECT!!) She went right away to explore all the spaces, the bedrooms, the bathrooms, even the garage (she got a little lost and she really doesn't answer to her name yet). lol She walked right up to my daughter and just gave her one gentle kiss and walked away.  Meeting our male sheltie was interesting. She looked at him, he tried to do the good ole sniff and she wasn't having it. As the already great mother, she put him in his place. (Graham is ever so persistent, so needless to say, there was a lot of correcting).  She found herself a spot she was comfortable with. She laid down. We put food out for her since her pain med was best after food. She let it sit for about 20 minutes, then gobbled it all up.  The night went on and we all went to bed. It's always fun to see how they'll manage. Do they know what a bed is? Do they know what a house is?  She doesn't know commands. She DOES read signals and will sit to sho...

Kaya's new life

Image
Kaya starts her new life today. She came from Alabama with 6 pups and she was a great and calm mom. Did the best job and now we've weaned and her puppies have all been adopted.  Today I pick her up from being spayed and she's ready. She was calm and collected, not sure if it was still anesthesia wearing off. She stepped on the center counsel, looked around and was definitely curious.  She stayed pretty casual through the whole car ride. Then I went to pick up my daughter, she sat right up to her and was VERY curious. As usual my daughter meets every dog with excitement and just talked to her the whole ride. We stopped to pick up dinner and at this point she was used to the car and just passed out. As big as she is, she had her  paws curled up at the end of the seat and her head perfectly laying on  my center counsel. It's like she's done this before. lol What awaits us next.....
